RBLD is proud to celebrate a remarkable career milestone for retired Principal Leslie North: her election as a Fellow of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES).
This prestigious designation is one of the highest honors in the lighting profession and recognizes individuals whose contributions have had a lasting impact on the art and science of illumination. The Fellow designation is awarded through a rigorous nomination and review process and is reserved for professionals whose work has meaningfully influenced the field.
For anyone who has worked with Leslie, this recognition comes as no surprise.
Over the course of a career spanning nearly four decades, Leslie has built a reputation for excellence in some of the most demanding areas of lighting design. Her work has skillfully balanced technical precision with thoughtful design, elevating projects ranging from healthcare environments and sacred spaces to complex, large-scale developments around the world. The IES specifically recognized her contributions to lighting design and application across a broad spectrum of project types, as well as her leadership in creating healthcare environments that support patients, caregivers, and communities.
Throughout her time at Aurora Lighting Design and later at RBLD, Leslie helped shape countless projects while mentoring colleagues and advancing the profession through her expertise, generosity, and commitment to excellence. Many of us have had the privilege of collaborating with her on meaningful healthcare facilities, places of worship, and iconic supertall structures. Her ability to navigate both the technical and human sides of lighting design has left a lasting mark on our practice and on the industry as a whole.
The IES Fellow designation is a lifetime recognition bestowed upon members who have made significant contributions to illumination through lighting design, engineering, education, research, or related fields. Those contributions must influence the profession in a meaningful and lasting way, making Fellowship one of the society’s most distinguished honors.
While Leslie has officially retired from RBLD, her influence continues to be felt through the projects she helped bring to life, the designers she mentored, and the standards of excellence she championed throughout her career.
Please join all of us at RBLD in congratulating Leslie North, FIES on this extraordinary achievement. We couldn’t be more thrilled to see her contributions recognized at the highest levels of our profession.
